- The heat in the kiln is
distributed by controlled air flow.
This air flow is called circulation. This comes from solar photovoltaic (PV)
panels powering 12 volt direct current brush-less fans. A variety of different fan and panel
combinations were tested to find the most efficient combination based on
cubic feet per minute (CFM) data.
These are placed in the ventilation vents, heat distributing
vents, and in additional heat collectors. Ventilation assists in the heat
distribution.

- Traditional Solar kilns rely
on thermostats to determine when to ventilate the kiln. There can be two problems with this
approach. Depending on the outdoor conditions, the kiln can end up
venting in moist or cool air.
Neither is desired. PV
driven solar kilns only move air during heating periods.
